Leslie Williams
Leslie Williams is Interim Director of Dance at West Texas A&M University. A passionate teacher who draws on life experiences, Leslie creates work entwined with humor, sorrow, and real - life. A native of the Texas Panhandle, Leslie E. Williams started dancing at a young age. She trained and performed with Lone Star Ballet and at West Texas A&M University in many key roles and performances, dancing and teaching. Additionally, she has served as Dance Captain for the musical drama TEXAS. In the year 2000, Leslie earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from West Texas A&M University. In pursuit of a professional career, Leslie located to Chicago to train with Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, and she pursued a Masters Degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, ultimately earning an MFA in Choreography and an MFA in Performance. While attending the University of Michigan, Leslie worked with David Dorfman, Peggy Linman, Peter Sparling, Bill DeYong and others. With graduate degrees in hand, Leslie joined the professional modern dance troupe in Ann Arbor, Peter Sparling Dance Company. During that time, she also taught dance, holding teaching positions at Wayne State University and at Dance Gallery Studio. In 2006 Leslie returned to Interlochen Center for the Arts as summer faculty. She continues to perform with Peter Sparling Dance Company, and is assistant professor of Dance at WTAMU. Leslie now teaches dance at her Alma Mater, perpetuating a legacy of dance excellence to a new generation of dancers.
