Lone Star Dance Academy classes are developmentally age appropriate and build over a time in a progressive way. The curriculum is performance based and emphasizes a strong classical technique in all disciplines of dance and a flow of movement that expresses a sense of energy, freedom and joy. This training allows the dancer the ability to adapt to a variety of repertoire in different styles by choreographers, past and present.
Lone Star Dance Academy is a dually-structured learning environment. We encourage dancers from all ages, levels and disciplines. You are welcome to instruction whether you are a first-time dancer or an experienced enthusiast. We offer a recreational program that welcomes everyone and a higher-level and concentrated program for the serious student.
Students progress through levels at their own pace. It is not uncommon to spend more than one year in a level. This structured training sequence is designed to increase students' technical skills in accordance with their physical development. No experience is needed for most classes. Please contact the main office for information on company classes as they are Director Placement only classes. Some classes not offered in all locations. Check the class schedule nearest you.
Students begin formal ballet training with the emphasis on barre work and center training to increase the students' technical skills in accordance with their physical development. Students are introduced to the terminology of classical ballet, including the basic positions. Additional emphasis will be placed on alignment and injury prevention during the barre routine; perfect for anyone who wishes to increase their range of flexibility. Basic combinations and traveling patterns are explored in floor exercises.
These entertaining classes combine rhythm and coordination through a variety of engaging movement exercises. They are instructed using basic steps learning dance terminology, all while encouraging creativity and group interaction. These classes are a great interactive introduction to dance and encourage the desire to learn. Classes may be instructed as combo classes in some locations. Tap: A fun-filled class that develops coordination, rhythm, basic tap technique and performance skills.
Students are introduced to the terminology of jazz, including the basic positions and rhythmic movement and styles. Basic combinations and traveling patterns are performed to fun, energetic music.
These classes are designed to encourage expressive communication through modern dance movement. Classes are based in both the Horton and Graham techniques. These techniques, developed in America, are widely recognized as the foundations for many styles of modern dance around the world.
Students explore more terminology in classical ballet while increasing their range of flexibility. Basic combinations and traveling patterns are performed in floor exercises customized for the ability of each class. Barre routines remain standard, but floor exercises increase in complexity and particular attention is given to phrasing. Floor exercises are customized for the ability level of each individual class at the instructor's discretion.
Director Placement only. These classes are designed for students who are prepared for pre- pointe and pointe work and have completed the classes that are required.
Concentrates on more complex combinations and exercises that develop coordination and rhythm while improving timing and agility.
Students can expect fun, high-energy music while learning the intermediate skills of jazz technique and hip hop. Class enables students to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance as well as the technique that is essential for leaps and turns.

Dancers with a high comprehension of ballet technique and vocabulary continue to study ballet technique. Floor combinations continue to increase in complexity beyond that of the Intermediate level. Floor exercises are customized for the ability level of each individual's class at the teacher's discretion.
While increasing their skills as tap dancers technically, students will dance to a variety of music styles emphasizing precise footwork, counter-rhythms, turning skills and all with an aim for speed.
Emphasis is on the advanced skills of jazz technique with a focus on different jazz styles, rhythmic and modern combinations of music and movement. Students will learn more advanced routines with jumps and turns as well as learn hip hop combinations.
